Player evaluation

At the start of each season, new players or players that have entered the draft, are required to attend player evaluations. These are typically held the Monday and/or Wednesday nights the week before the season’s start. The Director of Player Personnel conducts the evaluation with team managers reviewing each player.

Each player should arrive 30 minutes early to warm up, receive a numbered practice jersey, and receive instructions from the Director.

Each player is evaluated for

  • Infield – the player is typically positioned at short stop and has several ground balls hit to them. The player does their best to stop the ball and throw to first base.
  • Outfield – the player is usually positioned in left center and has several fly balls hit to them. The player does their best to catch the ball and throw to the short stop cut-off.
  • Batting – the player has several balls pitched to them. The player does their best to hit the ball to wherever they choose to hit.
  • Base running – when the last ball is hit, the player runs to first base as quickly as they can.

Information gathered on the players is used during Draft Night, where team managers fill positions on their teams.
