Software set up and configuration

Overview

This page addresses steps needed to create a schedule for any new season. Note that a season is a discrete time period and each year may have one or more seasons. The league Scheduling Director uses a combination of both All-Pro League Scheduler 8.0.16 software, henceforth referred to as the software, and Microsoft Excel, henceforth referred to as Excel or spreadsheet, to develop each new season. The software is on a CD and a USB thumb drive and only usable on Windows based computers. The software specifically lists that it works on Windows 7 / Vista / XP, however, at the time of this writing, it also works with Windows 10 Pro on a Intel i9-9900 64 bit processor.

Installing the software

Installation from a CD should automatically start when the CD is inserted in the CD drive. Installation from the USB thumb drive requires the user to navigate into the League Scheduler Software Install folder and double click on apsls80.exe. Your security software may require you to authorize the installation. You can select from Easy Installation or Advanced Installation; however the advanced option only allows you to change the default installation location. The USB thumb drive contains a file under the League Scheduler Software Install folder, called NSS License.txt, which contains the registration information, but is also listed here. When the software is started for the first time, the Registration name and code need to be entered. Creating the league

If this is a fresh install, you will need to create a League. You have the option to start fresh or to use information from past scheduling directors.

Option 1: Use past scheduling director data

The USB thumb drive contains a file Backup.ls. Start the software and select File->Restore Database… then navigate to the USB thumb drive and select Backup.ls. Click Yes to continue with replacing the database. If you mess up, you can always reinstall the software to get the default database. Voila, you should have a basic Nebraska Senior Softball setup with 16 teams and three fields.

Option 2: Use default software data (a.k.a., starting fresh)

If the league does not exist then click Leagues in the bottom left. As a suggestion, delete default league information then Add our league with a name such as Nebraska Senior Softball. Contact information is not needed for NSS.

Creating a new schedule

A new schedule should be created with each new season, as opposed to reusing an existing schedule.
  1. Click Schedules in the middle. This is where you name the Summer and Fall schedules.
  2. Click Add to create a new schedule with a name similar to 2021 NSS Summer or 2021 NSS Fall then click Close.
  3. Click Setup in the bottom center.
  4. Click on Teams in the top right.
  5. Click Add in the bottom left for every team that you want to create. Note that you can add dozens of teams, then select which teams you wish to actually use. Contact information is not needed for NSS.
  6. Click on Add under Divisions in the top right and enter all the divisions that you need.
  7. Click on a Division and you will see the teams assigned to that division.
  8. Click on a team from the left teams list and ===> to put that team in the selected division. Repeat for all teams within that division then repeat for other divisions. Click on <=== to remove teams from a selected division. Exceptions under divisions should not be needed. It is unknown what effect changing a team’s number has on the schedule, although it may be relevant when the schedule is generated. Click Close when finished.
  9. Click on Locations from the top center.
  10. Click Add in the bottom left to add field locations. Click ===> to add fields from the fields list to the league. Click Close when finished.
  11. Lastly, click on Game Times in the top center. For each field, enter which day and time of each day that field will be available then click Add Game Time. Note that for NSS at LaVista fields, Field 2’s availability is seasonally adjusted to remove the worst one hour period where the sun is in the defense player’s eyes. Click Close when finished.
